Challenge

School Attendance for both students and teachers takes a lot of time and manual logging, keeping track of leaves & staff payroll in some tier 2 & tier 3 cities is still done on paper and can fill record rooms quickly.

Solution

We designed a secure biometric face attendance app that can be installed on any android phone and set up in the school by the admin. We wanted to fully automate student attendance by placing the device in front of classrooms, The parents instantly get notified of attendance through WhatsApp integration.

The Staff can either scan on any device registered to school or install on their own device and scan within school premises.The time set up by school allowed them to create rules & automate for overtime, late arrival or early leave penalties without manually logging anything.

Reasoning

After talking with teachers we learnt that even schools who do use digital tools for attendance, due to poor experience they still take attendance on registrar and log the data in digital tools during the weekend. 

For staff attendance we learnt grade A, & grade B Schools (see reference) used biometric punch in machines, but for grade C,D was still working on manual logging on registrars.

Impact

With the staff dashboard analysis, admin can identify trends and figure out staff capacity on any given day. For teachers and parents keeping track of attendance also became very transparent.

This reduced strain & labour load on daily paperwork and administration of the school and gave teachers more time to focus on teaching. 

For Students, the face attendance did not perform as per the expectations and after iterations it was improvised to focus on staff attendance where it performed better than expected with 67.9% adoption rate across 50 Schools.
